Mission & Values

Porthia Clinic is a CQC-registered private mental health clinic in Cornwall. Dr. Claudia Murton, Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director, and Dr. Eleanor Ley, Educational Psychologist, work in collaboration to deliver expert assessments across adult psychiatry, ADHD and autism. Together, our clinical team combines medical rigour with a genuinely personalised approach to care.

Assessments You Can Trust

Private ADHD and autism assessments vary enormously in quality. Porthia is CQC-registered and follows NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines — the same clinical standards applied in NHS practice. Dr. Murton is a fully qualified NHS Consultant Psychiatrist with over 20 years’ medical and mental health experience. Assessments are thorough, unhurried, and include corroborative history-taking. Our assessments benefit from the involvement of Dr. Eleanor Ley, our Educational Psychologist, with over 15 years experience she brings specialist expertise in neurodiversity, post-diagnostic support, and educational and occupational impact. Where appropriate, assessments draw on both psychiatric and psychological perspectives, giving you a more complete clinical picture and treatment plan.  We do not offer quick or rushed assessments.

Psychiatrists and Psychologists

The psychiatrists and psychologists who work at Porthia Clinic are highly qualified doctoral-level clinicians, each bringing distinct and complementary expertise to our assessments. Having both disciplines working together means our patients benefit from both the medical expertise of a consultant psychiatrist and the specialist psychological insight of a doctoral-level psychologist — a combination that is not always available in private mental health care, and one that we believe makes a genuine difference to the quality and depth of our assessments.

Psychiatrists are fully qualified medical doctors who have completed many years of medical and then specialist training before becoming consultants. This medical foundation means they can diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication where appropriate, and assess the interaction between physical and mental health — bringing both clinical and biological insight to every assessment.

Psychologists hold a doctorate in psychology and specialise in understanding how people think, learn, and develop. Their expertise in cognitive and neurodevelopmental assessment means they can provide a detailed picture of how conditions such as ADHD and autism affect daily life — including work, relationships, and wellbeing — alongside evidence-based guidance on living well following a diagnosis. This includes specialist assessment of educational needs for students in further and higher education, supporting access to reasonable adjustments, learning support, and formal accommodations. This is a particular area of focus for Porthia, and one that remains significantly underserved across Cornwall and the South West.

Combined ADHD and Autism Assessment

ADHD and autism frequently co-occur. For adults who want to understand both, our combined assessment provides a comprehensive evaluation in a single structured process.

Lifestyle Medicine

Where clinically appropriate, our treatment plans may also include a recommendation to explore lifestyle-based support alongside medical care. There is a growing and credible body of evidence linking physical activity, breathwork, and stress physiology to improved outcomes in depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions — and Cornwall’s natural environment makes it a particularly fitting place to embrace this approach.
