This is followed by at least 2 years of general medical training including medicine, surgery and other specialities. They then complete at least 6 years of specialist psychiatric training before becoming a consultant. As medical doctors, psychiatrists are uniquely qualified to diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe medication, and understand how physical and mental health interact. They can provide comprehensive mental health assessments, develop treatment plans, offer therapeutic interventions, and work alongside other healthcare professionals to deliver complete patient care

information taken was thorough and next steps were spoken about in good detail. For the first
time with a medical professional, I felt validated and listened to."

ahead of the appointment which was a massive help for me as it meant I didn';t have to try and
remember everything I had included in the pre-assessment paperwork. She was validating to
how I felt and my experiences"
