Porthia Clinic – Cornwall Mental Health Clinic

Private ADHD Assessment Cornwall and the South West

If you’re living in Cornwall or the South West and suspect you have ADHD, getting the right assessment is one of the most important decisions you can make. Porthia Clinic offers specialist private ADHD assessments in Cornwall, delivered by our clinical team — Dr. Claudia Murton, NHS Consultant Psychiatrist, and Dr. Eleanor Ley, Educational Psychologist. Every assessment at Porthia, regardless of which clinician leads it, includes full consultant psychiatric oversight — ensuring accurate diagnosis, proper consideration of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, and autism, and a clear pathway to medication where clinically appropriate. This is the level of care that not all private assessment providers in the area are currently able to offer, CQC registration and the ability to prescribe and manage medication.

Why choose Porthia for your ADHD assessment

Not all private ADHD assessments are equal. Recent media coverage — including investigations by The Guardian and BBC Panorama — has raised serious concerns about standards across the private ADHD assessment sector. Clinicians have warned that a significant proportion of private assessments do not meet the standards required for GPs to act on them, and there is currently no mandatory regulation governing who can offer assessments privately.
At Porthia, our standards are clear. We are CQC-registered, follow NICE Guidelines ( National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) NG87, and use DSM-5 diagnostic criteria with thorough history-taking and corroborative information. Every assessment includes full consultant psychiatric oversight from Dr. Claudia Murton, GMC Specialist Register member — not a specialist nurse or independent prescriber working without psychiatric supervision. This means a genuine, supported pathway to medication and GP shared care where appropriate.
This level of provision is not required of all private assessment providers, and is not something every service in the region is able to offer.

General Practitioners

General Practitioners (GPs) are medical doctors who provide primary healthcare, diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions. They offer preventive care, manage chronic illnesses, and refer patients to specialists when necessary. GPs are often the first point of contact for health concerns.

Dr Murton at Porthia Clinic will always liaise with your GP regarding your care, both before and after your appointment.

Insurance Companies

Insurance companies provide coverage for medical expenses, offering health plans that help reduce the cost of treatments, medications, and hospital visits. They work by pooling risk and collecting premiums from policyholders to cover various healthcare services.
We are currently not affiliated with insurance companies, or private inpatient hospitals, but may be in the future.
